Population of Montenegro

According to the World Bank, the population of Montenegro was estimated to be 627,028 in 2022. This represents a growth of 4.4% from the 2020 population of 597,900.

The population of Montenegro is relatively young, with a median age of 39.4 years. The fertility rate is 1.5 children per woman, which is below the replacement rate of 2.1 children per woman.

The majority of the population of Montenegro is ethnic Montenegrin (45%), followed by Serbs (29%), Bosniaks (12%), Albanians (5%), and others (9%). The official language of Montenegro is Montenegrin, which is closely related to Serbian.

The capital and largest city of Montenegro is Podgorica, which has a population of over 150,000 people. Other major cities include Nikšić, Budva, and Kotor.

The economy of Montenegro is based on tourism, agriculture, and industry. The tourism sector is the largest contributor to the economy, accounting for over 20% of GDP. Agriculture is another important sector, accounting for about 10% of GDP. Industry accounts for about 30% of GDP.

Montenegro is a member of the United Nations, the Council of Europe, and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). It is also a candidate for membership in the European Union.
